K-12 Blended Learning Program
           

Our Project > Schedules

Students who participated in this project first attended a face-to-face summer program followed by one-on-one online instruction during the academic year.


Summer Daily Schedule (Face to face; Monday to Thursday)

Grades 6-8 and 9-12
- 9:00–9:50am: Language Class I (building proficiency in all modalities)
- 10:00–10:50am: Language Class II
- 11:00–11:55am: Lunch
- 12:00–12:50pm: Culture Activity Class I (Chinese calligraphy, crafts, movies, music, cooking)
- 1:00–1:50pm: Culture Activity Class II
- 2:00–3:00pm: Web-based activities + Individual meeting with teacher
Plus field trip is organized to Chinatown in NYC.

Grades 3-5
- 9:00–9:40am: Language Class I (building proficiency in all modalities)
- 9:45–10:45am: Culture Activities (Chinese calligraphy, crafts, movies, music, cooking)
- 10:50–11:00am: Snack break
- 11:00–11:30: Web-based activities + Individual meeting with teacher
Plus field trip is organized to local Chinese restaurant.

Grades K-2
- 1:00–1:30: Language Class I (building proficiency in all modalities)
- 1:35–2:15: Culture Activities (Chinese calligraphy, crafts, movies, music, cooking)
- 2:15–2:30: Snack break
- 2:30–3:00: Web-based activities + Individual meeting with teacher

Summer Online sessions (Fridays and the last two weeks):
Grades 9-12 students had two hours of online tutoring on Fridays. The last two weeks of the summer program were 100% online where students met with their tutor for a two-hour tutoring session each day.

Grades 6-8 students had two hours of online tutoring on Fridays. The last two weeks of the summer program were 100% online where students met with their tutor for a one-hour tutoring session each day.


Academic Year 
After the summer program, face-to-face group classes and individualized online study plans tailored to each student’s language learning needs were provided.


Online 1-1 Sessions:
9-12: 1 hour per week
6-8: 45 mins per week
3-5: 30 mins per week
K-2: N/A

Year 2:
During the second academic year, all instructions was given online. All students received weekly 1-1 online sessions. For K-5 students, they also received monthly face-to-face instruction for two hours. At the same time, the program increased the online instructional time to grades 3-12 students and, with the parents' support, offered the online sessions to K-2 students. The hours are indicated below:

Grades 9-12: 1.5 hours per week
Grades 6-8: 1 hour per week
Grades 3-5: 1 hour per week
Grades K-2: 30 minutes per week

Jericho Enrichment Program:
To further collaborate with Jericho’s existing Chinese program, the pilot project also included an enrichment program for students enrolled in Chinese classes at Jericho.  Two high school students and four middle school students were given one supplemental hour of individual online instruction each week.   

Extension Project
In the extension project, nine of Hunter College Campus Elementary School’s grades 3-5 students participated in the program for a total of 10 weeks. The program began on January 25th, 2017, and featured both face-to-face and online sessions. The face-to-face sessions were held every Wednesday. Six students attended both the face-to-face and online sessions; three students did online sessions only.
